What do Gum Disease and Whoopi Goldberg have in common?

Gum disease can progress painlessly on the whole which means you might not notice the damage it is causing to your gums and bone.

However, active bacteria can make your gums quite sore which can lead to gum abscesses. If Gum Disease is not treated over a number of years, the bone supporting the teeth can be lost. If the disease is left untreated for a long time, treatment can become more difficult.

There are now also links between gum disease and your overall health, as Whoopi Goldberg discusses in this videoi

“Changing black fillings to tooth coloured ones”

This gentleman from Harrow had decay under an old black and silver amalgam fillings in an upper tooth.  He also did not like the appearance of his existing filling and wanted the new one to look more natural.

The black amalgam filling was removed and  replaced with a tooth coloured (composite) filling material.  He was very satisfied with the result.  The patient is going to change the other silver fillings in due course.

I do not smile because of my teeth

This gentleman from Harrow did not like the colour and appearance of his upper front teeth.  His front tooth was chipped and he had some heavily filled teeth at the back of the mouth which were visible when he smiled.  He also found that his teeth were too yellow.

After a detailed consultation with Dr Dixit, treatment options were discussed.  The patient decided to have teeth whitening treatment to improve the colour of his discoloured teeth.  The chipped tooth was repaired using a tooth coloured filling material and the heavily filled teeth were protected with porcelain crowns to match the new colour of his teeth.

The patient was very satisfied with the final result.

Testimonial

I’ve been coming to the practice for the last few months for treatment.  The staff at the practice have been excellent, from the quality of the treatment to the after care support.

I would encourage anyone to join the practice.  Thanks Blue Court Dental.

“I hate the black filling in my mouth”

This very charming lady from Harrow came to see Dr Dixit complaining about a black filling in her lower jaw. She was very unhappy with the unsightly appearance.

After an extensive consultation, where  the various treatment options were explained to the patient, she chose to have the black filling replaced with a tooth coloured material and reshaped to resemble a natural tooth. The patient was very happy with her new filling.

Happy to have an implant

This patient from Wembley came to Dr Dixit because he didn’t like the space left in his lower jaw, after his missing tooth was extracted.

At the consultation, Dr Dixit discussed with the patient the treatment options available to him. His preferred choice was to have an implant, as it didn’t involve any drilling of the adjacent teeth.

An implant with a cover screw (above picture) was placed by our implantologist, Dr Nihir Shah, about three to four months ago.

The crown was screwed into place and the screw hole was filled with a white filling material. The patient was very happy with the final result.

Tooth grinding

Tooth grinding (also known as bruxism) and jaw clenching are common symptoms of stress and anxiety, and can have a devastating effect on your teeth as well as causing problems such as headaches, jaw pain and eating problems.

Many people grind their teeth in their sleep, and are unaware of the problem until either their partner complains of the noise, or they start experiencing dental problems.  Both grinding and jaw clenching can wear your teeth down, and can also cause teeth to crack or break.  They can also put excessive pressure on your jaw joint, which can lead to problems such as chronic headaches or migrains, neck, shoulder and back ache and ear and jaw pain.

If you think you might be grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw, do speak to us about it.  There are a number of things we can do to help, most of which are very affordable and certainly cheaper than having to repair or replace damaged teeth.
