This lady was soon to attend a close family wedding but she was unhappy and embarassed about her smile. She didn’t like her heavily discoloured, grey teeth and wanted to make then whiter so that she could smile in the photos.

We decided to use the teeth whitening system to give her the dazzling smile that she desired. We managed to change her teeth from a grey C2 shade to a shade near to B1. She was absolutely delighted with the immediate and instant result that we achieved.

To improve the smile further,  the patient has decides to undergo further cosmetic treatment.

Do you have crooked teeth, and would like them straighter but do not want people to know you are having orthodontics?

Or perhaps you had orthodontics when you were younger and your teeth have moved again, and being older you don’t want metal train track braces?

There are now two new amazing treatments for almost invisible braces, available from Blue Court Dental Centre in the heart of Harrow. These are Clear Braces and Six Month Smiles.

Invisible Braces with Clear Braces.

This revolutionary modern orthodontic technique provides you with a series of clear orthodontic braces, which are almost invisible. Each Clear Brace moves your teeth a small amount towards your straighter smile. You simply where each almost invisible Brace for the prescribed time, normally a couple of weeks, then replace it with a new Brace. We will provide you with a series of clear aligners (braces)so there will be no need to keep returning to the practice each time.

Invisible Braces with Six Month Smiles.

This again is a modern technique and is an up to date version of the traditional train track braces. However this time the braces are made with clear brackets and tooth coloured barely visible wires. Opting for Six Month Smiles with fixed braces, means that tooth movement can be achieved more rapidly as we are able to put slightly more pressure onto each tooth.

If you live in Harrow and are looking for a dentist to provide invisible braces for a straighter smile, then please do visit our website and download a voucher for a free assessment. This will include a full clinical consultation to discuss how you wish your new smile to look after you have had your invisible braces.

Blue court dental centre is a Private dental practice offering high-quality treatments for the local people of Harrow.

If you have a gummy smile or teeth that appeared different lengths, then often some form of gum contouring can be useful.

But how do we know what length of tooth is correct?

Whenever an artist does a painting he needs to conform to what is known as the Golden proportion, this is a proportion or ratio of length to width. Artists use this all the time to ensure that their paintings look aesthetically pleasing to the human eye. A dentist is able to use this same principle to decide on whether your teeth are the correct proportion or not.

generally speaking, looking along the gum margin of each to the front to teeth should be the same, and these to teeth should match the same gum margin as your eye teeth (canines). If you’re gum line or margin does not match this then some gum re-contouring would help to restore the golden proportion of length two width ratio of each tooth, plus balance the eye when looking at your gum line.

Think of your gums as a frame for your teeth, this frame needs to be perfectly balanced in order to set off and display in a pleasing way the picture, or to, within.

the gum re-contouring technique we use in our Harrow dental practice is always done with a local anaesthetic, so is painless and quick. There may be some mild discomfort afterwards, although your mouth and guns will always feel very quickly due to the high quality blood supply.

Patients report that after gum recontouring that they feel more confident when out and about in the local Harrow area.

If you are at all concerned about the length or height of your gum line and wish to discuss this with our dentist, then please call our practice for a brief discussion. We can then undertake a detailed clinical examination of your gums and teeth and let you know if any gum recontouring technique would help the athletics of your smile.

If you break the tooth or accidentally pull the tooth out then here is some advice for your dental emergency. If you have simply chipped the corner of the tooth, and there is no sign of blood or pain then this type of trauma can be easily seen by your dentist during normal working hours. If however you have acute dental pain or you have in fact accidentally lost a tooth then here is some free emergency dental advice for you.

Emergency dental advice

The first thing to remember is that the tooth is a living organism, so please ensure that you always hold the tooth by the Crown (the part that was showing originally) and not by the root. Place the tooth into a clean container full of milk, being careful not to touch the root and handling the whole truth very carefully. Then visit the dentist as soon as you possibly can.

If this socket is bleeding, then apply pressure to the bleeding area. You may find this easier if you place some clean material into the patient’s mouth over the top of the whole and ask the patient to bite down on the material. Do not, however, plug the hole with the material. Applying something cold to the patient’s face will also help to reduce swelling and later bruising.

If your dental emergency is due to unknown dental pain, and is not because a tooth has come out, then we recommend rinsing your mouth with some warm water simply to keep the area clean. Ensure that you don’t have any food debris caught between your teeth. The only thing you can then do, is to call your local emergency dentist and take a visit.

If you happen to be travelling when you have your dental emergency, then either check the local telephone directory or go to a search engine online and search for dental emergencies in the area in which you are located. You should then find a list of dentists that are able to help you out of your dental pain.

If you’re dental emergency is severe then we always recommend going to see your local accident and emergency department.

Blue Court Dental centre offer a 24-hour emergency dental service for their Harrow patients. If the dental emergency is outside of normal working hours, there are instructions on the practice answerphone for how to deal with your dental emergency and how to contact the emergency dentist at the practice.

More information about the emergency dental service can be found here.

This patient came for her routine appointment and on examination, early decay was detected on a tooth that had not been treated before.  She wanted her new tooth to look as natural as possible.

The decay was removed and the tooth was prepared for a filling.  A white composite filling material was used to fill the hole.  The colour was made to match her existing teeth and shaped to look as natural as possible.

The patient was delighted with the result.

To help keep your teeth healthy, it is advised that you eat only three or four times a day, avoiding the temptation to snack in between – and if you must snack, then choose something that has no or minimal amounts of sugar in it, such as cheese, nuts, raw vegetables or breadsticks.

This is because every time you eat or drink something with sugar, the bacteria in your mouth reacts with the sugar which produces acid that attacks your teeth.  If these attacks happen too often, your teeth will suffer decay.

In addition, you should avoid acidic or fizzy drinks, as these can cause tooth erosion, where the hard outer coating (enamel) of your teeth is gradually worn away by repeated acid attacks.

If you must eat or drink sweet stuff, either ensure it is sugar free ( low sugar or no added sugar still contains sugar!), or indulge less often – at or immediately after mealtimes is ideal.  You can also chew sugar-free gum with xylitol after eating or drinking to help boost saliva production and neutralise decay.

Below you can see a couple of pictures of common snacks and drinks with their equivalent sugar content.

This patient was very unhappy with her peg like tooth in her upper jaw.  The tooth appeared smaller and sharper than the rest of her teeth and was very visible when she smiled.  She wanted a more natural looking tooth with the least amount of tooth destruction possible.

To change the shape of the tooth, a white composite filling material was used.  The filling was blended with the existing tooth using the latest techniques, giving the tooth a very natural look.

The patient was delighted with the final result.

This lady did not like the natural colour of her yellowish teeth. She wanted a highly effective way of  lightening the colour of her teeth, without removing any of the tooth surface.

After considering various options,  the patient decided to have  tooth whitening treatment, using the custom made home kit.

Approximately two weeks later, we achieved a very satisfactory result, leaving the patient delighted with the new colour of her teeth.

Gum infections are the most common cause of adult tooth loss but often go unnoticed as they progress without pain.  However, the following are warning signs that shouldn’t be ignored:

  • Gums that bleed when brushing/flossing
  • Bad breath or bad tastes in the mouth
  • Loosening of teeth
  • Loss of teeth
  • Gums that are red, swollen, or tender
  • Gum recession
  • Teeth that drift from their original position

In order to prevent gum disease and keep your teeth and gums healthy, we advise:

Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, especially at bedtime.  You should clean them for 2 minutes, making sure you brush every surface of each tooth – be thorough but not forceful as you can cause damage to your teeth and gums.

Make sure youclean between your teeth and under your gumline.  We advise you on the best method for your teeth.

Eat a healthy diet.  In particular, don’t eat too much sugar, and dont consume sugary foods or drinks too often – we recommend limiting sugar intake to mealtimes only.

Don’t smoke! Smoking has a particulary damaging effect on your oral health.  Smokers are four times as likely to suffer gum disease ( the biggest cause of tooth loss among UK adults ).

Visit the practice regulary so we can check your mouth for signs of potential problems and treat them early.  Having your teeth professionally cleaned by us also helps protect you from gum disease by removing any hardened plaque and flushing away plaque bio-films.

If you are overdue for a check-up or have any concerns, please give us a call and book an appointment, and let us help you to enjoy healthy teeth and gums for life!

This patient came to Dr Dixit for a consultation because she was unhappy with her smile.  The front crowns that she had did not match the rest of her teeth and the black line near the gum was very visible when she laughed.

Dr Dixit decided to replace the old crowns with all ceramic emax crowns.  This was considered to be the best match with the patients own natural teeth.  The transparent colour and life-like appearance ensured that it was unlikely to be noticed amongst her own natural teeth.

Emax crowns are a type of all ceramic crown with an appealing translucent colour which is combined with strength and durability.  There is no metal alloy base which means no unsightly looking grey/black  line.

The patient was extremely happy and satisfied with the final result.
